"Success By Design" Talk at HKTDC Education & Careers Expo 2014

Posted by Raffles on February 19, 2014

Our "Success By Design" was held successfully for the second consecutive year at the HKTDC Education & Careers Expo last Sunday. This year, we've invited four special guests: the Vice President of the Hong Kong Society for Education in Art (HKSEA) Mr Tsui Kwok Kin, UK Fashion Designer Stefán Orschel-Read, UK Fashion Marketer Thomas Empson and 2013 DSE Graduate Cherie Cheung. The talk was filled to capacity with a number of DSE students, Asso/High Dip graduates, working adults, parents, teachers and even Principal. The four speakers shared with us their experience in the industry:

UK Fashion Designer Stefán Orschel-Read (Current Raffles Fashion Design Lecturer):
“Dressing Lady Gaga is probably the biggest compliment as a designer. The interesting part was to put her in trousers. No one could ever put Lady Gaga into trousers before.” Lady Gaga hoped that Stefán could design something that captured her identity in menswear.

Vice President of the Hong Kong Society for Education in Art (HKSEA) Mr Tsui Kwok Kin:
“There are different paths ready for you after studying Visual Arts or other design subjects nowadays. It can be a path to success.”

2013 DSE Graduate Cherie Cheung:
“International learning environment is very important for studying design. Like the international design college Raffles that I’m studying at, we always come across different cultures in the campus, which makes our works more innovative and international.”

UK Fashion Marketer Thomas Empson (Current Raffles Fashion Marketing Lecturer):
“There is a lot of money being spent in the fashion industry in Hong Kong. There’re many world-known brands. This is a melting pot of job opportunities for graduate students.”

Thank you all special guests for sharing with us in the talk!
